What Are IPL Photo Facials?

IPL, also known as Intense Pulsed Light therapy, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure focused on improving the appearance of the skin. Unlike traditional laser treatments that use a single wavelength of light, IPL utilizes a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to target various skin concerns simultaneously. This revolutionary treatment essentially uses light to break up pigment within the skin.

IPL Photo Facials are commonly used to address issues such as:

  • hyperpigmentation
  • sun damage
  • redness
  • rosacea
  • uneven skin tone, and more

What Can I Expect From My IPL Photo Facial Treatment?

We first begin by cleansing your skin to ensure a clean canvas. During the procedure, intense pulses of light penetrate deep into the skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting cellular regeneration, which can result in smoother, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin.

IPL Photo Facial procedures typically involve a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results but can be performed as a single treatment. Patients may experience mild discomfort during the treatment, often described as a snapping sensation or a mild stinging feeling, but it is generally well-tolerated. Following each session, there may be some temporary redness or mild swelling, but these side effects typically subside within a few hours to a few days. Elizabeth may recommend medical grade skin care products for take home use as well.

Who Is A Good Candidate For IPL Photo Facials?

IPL Photo Facials offer wonderful benefits, but they do require candidates to meet specific criteria.

  • IPL Photo Facials can only be performed on those who fall within skin types 1, 2, and 3 on the Fitzpatrick Scale.
  •  You also must not have any recently extended sun exposure in order to be treated on the day of your treatment. IPL Photo Facials cannot be used on those who have melasma either, but fear not, we offer plenty of other great treatments at Illumatox to cater to those with melasma!
  • This treatment is also not recommended for those who are pregnant.

What Other Treatments Pair Well With IPL Photo Facials?

Elizabeth will assess your skin prior to and throughout your treatment series to determine if additional treatments are needed to achieve the desired result. Generally, we have observed great results from patients who incorporate chemical peels into their aesthetic treatment plan. While chemical peels cannot be done on the same day as your IPL Photo Facial treatment, they can be utilized 4 weeks apart.
